Why are you running for ASWU president?

Being the Senator for McMillan Hall this year, I would love to continue to serve the Student Body. Having a passion for serving students and helping the University grow is another reason I wish to continue serving my fellow students.

What are the student body’s biggest concerns, and how will you address them?

Seeing all of the issues this year from the perspective of ASWU, I know that the concerns of the student body can change in an instant. My experience as a senator has helped me gain critical skills in adapting to fast changing situations.

What are the unique ideas, issues, and proposals in your campaign platform?

The first thing that I would like to work towards would be opening ASWU more to the student body. Seeing ASWU from both the outside and inside, I know how we seem to be a student body government that is not active within the student body. By making announcements of important issues that ASWU is discussing weekly, posting what we are spending money on, and encouraging more student attendance, ASWU could once again become a strong and active student body government. A second idea would be to encourage more activity between the colleges and universities in the greater Spokane area. Simply by informing the student bodies what is happening on each campus or actually coordinating intercollegiate programs, the reputation and presence of Whitworth would increase in the dialog of Eastern Washington colleges and universities.

What is your number one priority when it comes to this job?

Having ASWU connect more with the students would be my main priority upon gaining office.

Why should we vote for you, instead of your opponent?

I have had experience in this type of job before, and I want to continue working for the students of Whitworth; I am currently a senator, and I was a PR/Constituent Relations coordinator for a U.S. Congressman in D.C. last summer (Congressman Peter DeFazio of the 4th district of Oregon). I work closely with faculty, staff, administration–and I maintain those relationships. I can bring all of this experience to serve the students of Whitworth University.
